Sivas Kangalı, also known as Kangal Shepherd or Kangal, is a breed of large livestock guardian dog originating from the Sivas province in Turkey. The breed is named after its place of origin, the Kangal district.
Kangals are known for their loyalty and protective nature, and are often used to protect livestock such as sheep from predators such as wolves and bears. They are muscular and have a thick, dense coat that ranges in color from light to dark gray, with a black mask. They have a calm and composed temperament, but are also fearless when it comes to defending their territory.
The breed has gained popularity outside of Turkey, and is recognized by various kennel clubs around the world. However, due to their size and protective nature, they may not be suitable for all households. Proper training and socialization is key to raising a well-behaved Kangal.
